Monthly highlights:

What a month of cross country and marathons with medals and PB’s galore!


Sunday 1st October:

Cork to Cobh

Well done to everyone taking on this 15 miler a great day out as always.


Novice Cross Country

On the same day. On the same day we had a big turnout of Mallow men and women in the County Novice Cross Country Championships 2017 in Riverstick.

Big congrats to Lorraine Bolster 2nd lady and Mags Murphy 3rd lady home. Also the Mallow ladies team of Lorraine (2nd), Mags (3rd), Breda Gaffney (8th) and Anna Borkowska (17th) brought home the gold team prize.



Congrats ladies on a fantastic start to the XC season. A special mention to the debutants including Kathleen Cronin, Ana Farinha, Claire Hever, Mary Ambrose Lyons and Aisling Carroll.




Saturday 7th October

Galway marathon

Well done to Adrian Ryder who had a great run and finished in 3:14:34


Sunday 8th October

Cork Athletics Senior Cross-Country Championships 2017 Aghern, Conna

Mallow AC well represented again.

Sunday 15th October

Cork Intermediate Cross Country Championships 2017 in Glenville.

What a day out for the club in tough conditions!! We had a great teams lining up for the ladies and men’s races with lots of medals in the bag.

Congrats to Lorraine Bolster who won the ladies race and is Cork Intermediate Champion!!!! The women also brought home the team gold with four scoring as follows 1st Lorraine Bolster, 4th Mags Murphy, 7th Breda Gaffney and 9th Joanne McCann.

While the team were 4th and just outside the medals with the following scoring: 14th John Hogan, 19th Noel Daly, 21st Peadar Lucey, 27th Paudie Birmingham – well done lads.


Sunday 22nd October

Munster Novice cross country championship in Clarecastle.


Two strong Mallow teams lined out on a very soft and muddy course.

Congratulations to Mallow Ladies on bringing home the gold today at the Munster Novice cross country championship. Fantastic team performance in very muddy conditions. 7th Aoife Carroll (who I hear also ran 12 miles as part of her marathon training before the race), 10th Breda Gaffney, 11th Joanne McCann and 13th Sharon Woods. Aoife and Breda were also part of the 2nd placed Cork team – well done ladies.




October 22nd 2017

Rebel Run 5k & 10k Road Race


Well done to Eamonn, Barry and Ger for running fantastic runs in this years rebel run.



Sunday 22nd October

Masters Open Cross Country Abottstown Dublin.

Congrats to Lorraine Bolster who travelled to Dublin to take part in the Masters 6k event in a high class field finishing 20th overall and 10th in her category. Well done Lorraine.


Sunday 29th October

Dublin and Frankfurt marathons.

The main marathons of the year and with months of preparation for the 26.2 miles the day and results did not disappoint. Well done to everyone taking part and those going to support. A massive congrats to everyone who took on the distance for the first time. Hopefully the first of many.

Other notes:

Paul to represent Ireland!

Congratulations to Paul Moloney who has been selected as one of six athletes chosen by the Irish Masters Athletic Association to represent the Irish team as part of the upcoming Irish and British Masters International Cross Country event on the 18th November in Derry. Best of luck Paul and congrats on the great news.


Club Christmas raffle:

We will be holding our Christmas raffle on Friday 15th December in Jim Keeffe’s. This is to raise funds to help cover the costs of running the club. If you have not received your tickets yet please contact any of the following people who can provide them to you…Shane Anglim, Ger Buckley, Liam Murphy or Clive Aherne.


All members are encouraged to sell a minimum of €50 worth of tickets with the added incentive of a free 2018 membership for the member who sells the most. Your assistance as always is much appreciated.


Christmas party:



Date for your diary….the Mallow AC Christmas drinks are on in Jim Keeffe’s at 8pm on Saturday 9th December (this was moved from the 2nd December due to the Munster Cross Country on 3rdDecember)..






Safety first:

With winter closing in remember hi viz is required for all club session. It is also recommended to bring a head light for the park. Safety is paramount for all runners.


Club gear:

Official Club gear is only available from the Club. We do not currently have third party agreements for sale of club gear. Enquiries to Darragh Wiley.


Training is on 6.30pm in Mallow Park (across from Tesco) Tuesday and Thursday, 9am in Doneraile Park on Saturday and 9am on Sunday at the Roundabout. With the nights closing in be sure to bring your head torch. Also keep an eye on your email and facebook as Tuesday or Thursday’s sessions are sometimes held behind the railway station.


The John Buckley 200 point challenge:
The results file is up to date now taking into account October races. If anybody is missing points or notice something wrong please send a text to Paudie 086 3849159 and he will sort it out for you.


There are lots of races left to gather points and remember the prizes that are on offer. Prizes of €200, €150, €100 & €50 up for grabs and also discount vouchers John Buckley sports.

Try get yourself up to the next milestone.

Club facebook page:

There is a Club facebook policy in place. Only results from the Mallow 200 point challenge and local AAI races will be posted by the club but members are encouraged to share results and achievements from other races they attend. See facebook for the full detail of the new policy.


Please note results are filtered by Club so to ensure your name is picked up you must register using Mallow AC.
