November Club Notes

Monthly highlights:

Monthly highlights: Paul takes us international, a number represent Cork, a few international marathons and loads of club members new enough to running out training and racing – all very positive to see as we come close to the year end!

Sunday 5th November:

County Master’s and Novice B Cross Country in Riverstick

Two strong teams braved the conditions. Congrats to Lorraine Bolster 3rd lady home and 1st O35, Breda Gaffney 3rd O45 and the ladies team 2nd overall with Lorraine, Breda, Sharon Woods and Joanne McCann scoring. To the mens and Paul Moloney continues his great run of form with an overall win as well as an O35 win! The men were also 3rd in the team standings with Paul, John Hogan, Patryk Zajac and Noel Daly scoring.

Sunday 12th November:

Thomas Kent 10km

We had a large contingent head to this popular 10km race in Castlelyons hosted by St Nicholas AC. Mallow AC had over 25 runners. Brilliant to see so many new runners involved and congrats on all the PB’s!

Saturday 18th November:

Paul Moloney was part of the Irish team racing in the Irish and British Masters International Cross Country race in Derry. Paul took part in the 8k race and finished with a time of 27.00! Paul finished an excellent 8th place and 4th O35 narrowly missing out an individual bronze medal. Paul was part of the gold winning Irish O35 team and was second scorer on the team on only his second time wearing the green jersey. Brilliant running you did the club and country proud.

Sunday 19th November:

Valencia Marathon, Spain

Well done to Christine O’Donovan (4.32) and David Sheedy (4.04) taking on 26.2 in Spain.


Sunday 19th November:

Munster Masters in Riverstick

The number representing the club in XC are very strong this year. It is great to see so many debutants involved including Caroline Sheehan and John Collins. We also won a few medals which is an added bonus. Congrats to Breda Gaffney on silver in the O45 category and all runners involved. Also the ladies team of Breada, Sharon, Aoife and Ide who won the bronze team prize.


Sunday 19th November:

Portarlington Gingerbread 10km

No race is safe from these ladies who could pop up anywhere in the country 😉 Well done to Teresa O’Donovan, Denise O’Connor and Helen Mehigan.

Sneaky Peadar Curtis ran the Eddie Murphy Memorial Marathon in a great time of 4:19. For anyone who doesn’t know, the course is basically a one mile hill session x 26. Well done Peadar.

National Senior Cross Country in Dublin

Congrats to Lorraine Bolster and Paul Moloney who were selected and represented Cork at National level – a great achievement!






42 .Paul Maloney 34:13 ran in the 10000M

45 Lorraine Bolster 33:23 ran in the 8000M

Sunday 26th November:

Glenville 4 miler

The club was well represented in Glenville with 7 travelling. Well done to all!

AGM Monday 15th January:

The Club AGM will be held on Monday 15th January 2018 at 7.30pm in The Hibernian Hotel.

Have your say…..survey….please respond:

To help with the AGM agenda I have sent a short survey by email to each member so you can have your say. I would appreciate if as many as possible could complete. If we get a good response rate the aim is to run through any common themes at the meeting.

Christmas raffle:

Thanks to everyone who took tickets to help out with the Christmas raffle – it is much appreciated. The raffle is Friday 15th and it would be appreciated if you could arrange to drop off your tickets ASAP.

Save the date Mallow 10:

The Mallow 10 date has been set as Sunday 25th March 2018. Registration has yet to open. We will keep you informed before it does.

Dungarvan 10 transfers:

The Dungarvan 10 went on sale the 1st November and sold out in a record four hours. For those that missed out all is not lost as Dungarvan have announced that transfers are available and are priced at €5. If you have an entry and cannot make it please post on the club facebook page as there are plenty of club members who missed out. Official transfer are the only way to go.

Bank of Ireland Enterprise week:

Mallow AC had a stand at the Bank of Ireland Mallow Enterprise Town Expo which was on the 17th November in the Academy. Well done and thanks to Ger Buckley and Darragh Wiley for flying the flag high.



Safety first:With winter closing in remember hi viz is required for all club session. It is also recommended to bring a head light for the park. Safety is paramount for all runners.

Club gear:

Official Club gear is only available from the Club. We do not currently have third party agreements for sale of club gear. Enquiries to Darragh Wiley.

Training times:

Training is on 6.30pm in Mallow Park (across from Tesco) Tuesday and Thursday, 9am in Doneraile Park on Saturday and 9am on Sunday at the Roundabout. With the nights closing in be sure to bring your head torch. Also keep an eye on your email and facebook as Tuesday or Thursday’s sessions are sometimes held behind the railway station.

The John Buckley 200 point challenge:

The results file is up to date now taking into account November races. It is hotting up at the top with Peadar Lucey and Eamonn Nagle facing off with approx. 400 points each!

If anybody is missing points or notice something wrong please send a text to Paudie 086 3849159 and he will sort it out for you.

There are lots of races left to gather points and remember the prizes that are on offer. Prizes of €200, €150, €100 & €50 up for grabs and also discount vouchers John Buckley sports.

Try get yourself up to the next milestone.

Club facebook page:

There is a Club facebook policy in place. Only results from the Mallow 200 point challenge and local AAI races will be posted by the club but members are encouraged to share results and achievements from other races they attend. See facebook for the full detail of the new policy.

Please note results are filtered by Club so to ensure your name is picked up you must register using Mallow AC.
