The winning continues!! – Paul Moloney National Team Gold for Cork and Lorraine Bolster National Silver O35 in the National Cross Country in WIT. The Mallow Ladies team were 4th overall and only 2 points off bronze.

Also at the Gas Networks 5km Lorraine Bolster was first lady home in a new Club record of 18.46, Sharon Woods 1st F40 and Noel Daly 3rd M40. Sharon & Lorraine won Ladies Team prize. Congrats all.

At the start of the month we had 63 runners in the Dungarvan 10 on what were near perfect running conditions while at the end of the month we had 33 in Adare in more challenging conditions. Great turnouts and a special mention goes to all those who ran 10 miles and 10km for the first time – well done all.

Joan Ryan completed a 72km mountain ultra as if 72km was not enough there was a 2000m elevation – great running Joan. And Peadar Curtis completed the Dubai Marathon – we are going global.

Paul Moloney was shortlisted in the ‘Sports person of the year’ category in the Mallow and District Sports and Leisure Awards. These will be held in Springfort Hall on Saturday 4th March – best of luck Paul – the nomination is well deserved.

February marked the commencement of the “Tips and Tricks” section on the Club website https://mallowac.ie/ These are kindly prepared by Cathal Daly and are aimed at newer Club members to help out with some of the basics. Any questions or requests let us know.

The Mallow 10, which is the Club’s main showcase every year, is fast approaching on 26th March. We need VOLUNTEERS and lots of them! So far the uptake has been very poor.

If you are running you need to find an adult to volunteer on your behalf. All Club members are asked to add their name and contact number or that of your volunteer to the pinned post on facebook. This race is not possible without the goodwill of all the many volunteers each year – thank you all in advance.

Mallow 10 course clean-up is on 10am Saturday 4th March. We meet at the old entrance to the Beet factory. We have enough volunteers at this stage – thank you to all who have volunteered and see you on Saturday.

Also volunteers are required for the Couch to 5km – contact Denis Sheehan if you are interested in helping with the C25k. This is due to commence on Tuesday 28th

March for nine weeks and will end with the Dan Byrne 5km in Doneraile Park on Friday 2nd June.

Looking ahead:

Sunday 12th March – Ballycotton 10 – 98 members signed up for this one. There are still spaces on the bus provided by the club but not many. If you wish to take the bus add your name to the post on facebook.

Friday 17th March – Cork Road Championship are on in Castlelyons at 10am. This is a 4 mile race and all Club members are encouraged to sign up. If you wish to run give your name to the Club captains (Aoife Carroll & Nick Darmody). It would be great to have a women’s and men’s team on the day.

Sunday 26th March – Mallow 10 – no more to say 😉

See https://mallowac.ie/mallow-ac-200-point-challenge/ for details of races in the John Buckley Sports 200 point challenge.

2nd June at 7pm the Mallow AC Dan Byrne Memorial 5km in Doneraile Park. This is a big race for Mallow AC and is always very well attended.

Other notes:

Hope For Faith fun run registration takes place in the Arches from 7-9pm on Wednesday 1st March. Tom Daly who runs with the Club is organising this event with options to cater for all runners. More information is available online.   https://www.gofundme.com/289n7xbshope-for-faith

Ballycotton and Mallow 10 – for newer members who might not know there is a social aspect to these events as well as a run in Ballycotton and all the organising of the Mallow 10. Each year after both events we meet in Jim O’Keeffes in Mallow – this year I suspect will be no different – we hope to see you there.

Club facebook page – we endeavour to post timely results of well attended club and local races. We cannot post results of every race for obvious reasons. Please note results are filtered by Club so to ensure your name is picked up you must register using Mallow AC.

There are only two mile markers left for sponsorship in the Mallow 10. These are priced at €100 and any business interested in sponsoring is asked to contact Shane Anglim.

Thank you to the 150 runners who have paid their membership already. For those with membership due it would be appreciated if these could be paid before the end of March.
