April Club Notes

Monthly highlights:


Great results from the Munster Road Championships in Currow, Co. Kerry. Lorraine and Paul continue with pb’s and club records this time over the four mile distance. Lorraine Bolster-Tavolieri’s third place 24:08 time is a new club record, and the medals she took home were, O35 silver, Cork team novice gold, Cork team 035 gold, Mallow ladies team masters gold and Mallow ladies team novice silver.


Paul Moloney’s official time for the four miles was 19:56, which represents a 48 second PB and is also a club record. Paul’s tally of medals from the day was novice silver, masters silver, Cork team senior gold, Cork team novice gold, and Cork team masters silver.
Aoife Carroll won gold with the Cork novice team, and gold with the Cork masters team, and Joanne McCann won an O40 individual bronze medal. A special mention to Lisa GuerinRegina Cronin, Christine O’DonovanAna Farinha Ramos and Mary Carey, who were making their championship debut, and who ran very strongly throughout.


Lorna wins UCC 10K

Lorna Davey-Fitzgerald was first lady home, while Neilie Holland was 3rd O60 and Paddy Gyves 2nd O65. Shane Simcox also finished 6th overall.



Ide wins on Claragh Mountain

Well done to Ide Kelleher who was first woman home in the Claragh Mountain,MMRA Munster League last Sunday.


Loads of marathons in April

First to Listowel with Peadar Curtis 4.20 and Ger Buckley’s 4.32 in tough hot conditions!



Then to Brighton which was in similar hot conditions but the time did not show with Peadar Lucey’s 2.55.42 (three minute PB), Brendan Flanagan 3.24.25 and Eamonn Nagle 3.25.19 (a 23 minute pb!!!!!)



Castleisland 10 Mile

Congrats to Neil Holland who won his category. Well done, Neilie!


Boherbue to Kiskeam 4 Mile

Sharon Woods third place overall, closely followed by Aoife Carroll. Nick Darmody was 2nd O40, Denis Cronin 2nd O50, Kathleen Cronin 2nd O55 and Peter Gaffney 2nd O70


Kenmare Bridge 10k

Patryk Zajac was 4th in a time of 38:45, followed by John Hogan, 5th in 39:16, and Una Downes 53:56. Well done to all three.


Ballintotis 4 mile

Shane Simcox put in a fine performance taking 14th overall and 2nd O40 in a time of 21.51


Run for Faith

Congrats to all taking part in the Run for Faith, which was a tremendous event that even bad weather couldn’t ruin. Four runners from the club completed the full distance of > 80km well done Tom Daly, Ger Buckley, Donough Barrow and Denis Sheehan. Well done to all involved. We will confirm the full amount raised once all cards are returned.


Ballyhoura Trail Marathon and Ultra Marathon



Ide Kelleher took the women’s prize in the half marathon and Mick Clancy took part in the Mountain Ultra.







Great Limerick Run  

Loads running in the 10km, half and full marathon – In the full marathon congrats to Peadar Curtis (4.06.30) who got silver in the o55 category of the Munster Marathon Championships. Also Aoife Carroll 9th woman overall in a time of 3.23.08, Adrian Ryder 3.25.21, John Collins 3.43.01 and Brendan McCarthy 3.59.19.


Other notes:

Couch to 5K begins!


The Couch to 5K programme has started for 2017, and a huge crowd have started the journey which will conclude with the Dan Byrne 5K in Doneraile Park on Friday, 2nd June. Well done to all who turned up, and we hope you will stay for the full session of running, and that you will be on the start line on June 2nd. It’s a ten week programme, designed to take people from not having run before, to being able to complete a 5k run in that time frame





Running tops raise €585 for Faith Fund


The club had a number of long-sleeved tops left over from the recent Mallow 10, and it was decided to give them out to club members for a donation to the Faith Fund. It was a great success and raised €585 (with a further €135 from the couch to 5k training). Thank you to all who donated.

Dan Byrne 5km:

2nd June at 7pm the Mallow AC Dan Byrne Memorial 5km in Doneraile Park. This is a big race for Mallow AC and is always very well attended.


Streets of Galway 8K:

The Mallow AC annual club away day is the Streets of Galway 8km on Saturday, 12th August. This club outing is growing every year, and in 2016 nearly 100 made the journey to the City of the Tribes.
